Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good...

ChristmastreeI hope your holiday has been great thus far. I'm in a reflective mood today. My sister and my niece went to go pick up my sister's boyfriend from the bus station a little while ago, so who knows when they'll be back. My grandma jumped ship before I even got to town on Saturday, presumably to go lay up with her boyfriend...and my parents are having some silent war that I'm quietly observing. I think I'll go see my best friend from high school later. I'll chat with Spice at some point today and that will be about it. Pretty sad, but I've gotten a lot of sleep since I arrived. Something I don't get a lot of when I'm at my own house.

My mother made a German chocolate cake from scratch and I've pretty well fugged up my eat healthy regiment, but I keep reminding myself that it's the holidays and I haven't done too badly. My mother, who is very competitive, is shocked at how I've managed to slim back down so quickly. It really hasn't been all that quickly, she just doesn't see me that often, so it probably does seem really fast to her. It's been nice, healthy gradual loss of weight and proper toning. She's eating her heart out and I love it. I told Spice, my mother must have forgotten that when I decide to do something, I do it to the best of my ability and I do it well. Why would this have been any exception?

Anyway, I'm about to channel surf for a bit and then hit the cake plate again. I ate cake for breakfast and I haven't had anything else, but my mother made a killer broccoli casserole and I'll be polishing off a plate with some turkey shortly. I've been invited to a New Year's Eve party, along with the possibility of a great hookup, so I'm excited...despite my aversion to hookups. I think that the unbiased, no stakes in the success or failure situation might actually help. We'll see.

When I get back to my place on Thursday, I'm going to have to meditate to get my mind back to healthy eating and exercise mode. It shouldn't be too tough. I may actually go for a jog on Friday morning and anyone who knows me knows that I HATE running for exercise. But, I'm in decent enough shape now to actually start training for the marathon I've promised myself I'd run soon. I didn't want to start training and get discouraged by getting fatigued because I know how I go. Now, I may actually be able to have some good, strong training sessions. I've worked my way up to doing 60 minutes on the elliptical machine at a nice pace, so my breathing shouldn't take too long to regulate when I hit the open road. I'm thinking maybe a month I should be able to get my runner's breath under control. Anyway, any suggestions on the best time to run a marathon? I'm thinking maybe early fall would work best for me. I understand some runners have a preference as to what seasons they prefer. I'm going to get myself some reading material and immerse myself into training for the big one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas!!! --SUGAR

Oh girl, I have no advice for that running thing. I'm getting a side cramp just thinking about it.

Happy Holidays' though.

Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year to Sugar, Spice and all the other great minds who frequent this blog....hope you end your year with a bang!

ummmmm okay after I read "my grandmother . . .laying up. . .boyfriend" I couldn't read no more. Ya hear me? Girl cuz all I could see was my grandmothers (one who is WELL into her 80's) getting down with some old man.

Thank you, for putting that image in my head.

Merry Christmas!

I prefer to run in the spring as opposed to fall. I love a crisp, cool morning. I get hot very quickly. I hit the treadmill this morning. Did a walk/run. Need to work back up to running for an hour straight. But it felt good to get these big legs movin!

Good look on the elliptiocal machine. Be sure to vary the time you spend on it, though, so your body doesn't get used to it.

As for running, it's better to run when it's cold outside. Your body burns more calories and it's easier to breathe.
