Obama and Evangelicals: Oil and Water
Over the past couple of weeks or so, Barack Obama has been ramping up the rhetoric, trying to woo Evangelical Christians--a voting bloc that traditionally has gone to Republicans due to their more conservative views on things like abortion and gay rights. A great opinion piece by Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr. for the Philadelphia Inquirer discusses the quandary that many African-American pastors find themselves in as they try to find a way to reconcile voting for Obama despite his stance on social issues which go against their faith views. You know--Jesus, Obama, Jesus, Obama. What's a Black pastor to do?
It will absolutely hilarious and maddening at the same time to watch Obama, often called the most liberal Senator in the U.S. Congress, tap dance from one church to another to profess his deep connections to those parishioners all the while having a record of casting votes that are in absolute contrast to anything they believe in. Look for more folks to join Wright, Pfleger and all the rest under that big bus he drives around in. Remember, he is determined to win at any cost, but I'm pretty sure he's bitten off much more than he can chew with this one. The very conservative Family Research Council created the ad below questioning Obama on abortion:
Yeah, it should be a real treat to watch flip flop from one position to another over the next four months because ads like this are only the beginning of what's to come. It's deplorable for any political candidate to use any religion to try to prop him or herself up with voters, especially when your views and actionsdirect contrast with what they believe. That's not even propping up. That's just lying. --SUGAR

I alleviate the creepiness of this, and the continued erosion of the principle of separation of church and state, by amusing myself with the following thought:
All those never-had-sex loser boyz who joined Obama because they thought it would get them laid together with all those premarital-sex-is-a-sin virgens. Hilarious.

"Ironically, McCain seems to be publicly running away from the faith community, while Obama has started meeting with religious leaders, including evangelicals."
McCain has the right idea and continues to make it easier for me to vote for him. These pastors need to get out of the business of politics and get back into the business of preaching the gospel.
When did worrying about who's marrying who or what a woman does with her body become more important than feeding the hungry and ministering to the infirmed? Oh, my bad. I forgot they need to keep the collection plates full to pay for those mansions and luxury cars they pimp around in.
If Bishop Jackson, T.D. Jakes and their ilk want to endorse candidates from the pulpit, then they need to give up their tax exempt status. I'm sick of the lot of them.

Barry really knows how to put his foot in his mouth! ;) But with regard to pro-life vs pro-choice candidates, one of the things that pleased me when I found out, was that John McCain may be pro-life, but at least he is consistent in deed by adopting a child from Mother Theresa's orphanage. And the baby had physical/medical issues. I've often thought that the people so adamant about their pro-life stance should then think about adopting one of the many children in foster care who desperately need loving homes.

Obama is a fool for even attempting to court these Evangelical groups because while some of the African-American ones will support him, the rest of them for the most part will not. He is about to do what he normally does in these situations when it's obvious he can't win (like Pennsylvania and Ohio). Waste a lot of time and money because he arrogantly thinks he has some magical sway over anyone whose path he crosses. I get so sick of the Obamaganda that all Democrats wanted him in the primary election season because that's a lie. Hillary got more votes than him in the popular vote and even if we humored his supporters and didn't count FL and MI, they still nearly split the popular vote. This madness needs to stop!
