If McCain Was Too Old, Why Not Panetta?
I'm so disgusted by all of this madness. I've been trying to figure out how best to express my disgust with the Panetta selection to the CIA and I'm still not sure I have determined how to do so. Panetta, at nearly 71 years old, worries me immensely because considering his age, he has no experience in intelligence. NONE! It's like making somebody's 70 year old granddad the head of Sony's Playstation Development Division even though he hasn't ever played a video game a day in his life! Am I missing something here!!? Take a look at the news articles about it and how few pictures there are of Panetta or either pictures from like 10-15 years ago? They don't want to show this inexperienced, aging man who Obama has selected as the chief of our intelligence arm in light of the fact that Al Qaeda keeps us on their destruction prayer list!
There's a lot of crap going on in this world right now and this country is in the crosshairs of every insane terrorist group in the world. This is not the time to be playing games with such a selection. Democratic Senator from California and head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Dianne Feinstein was pissed about finding out about the appointment via the news, as she should be, and it appears she's taking it out on Obama by way of her support for seating Roland Burris as the Senate appointee out of Illinois. Oh this is all getting way too crazy for me! Why don't these motherfuckers get it together!? --SUGAR

Sugar, I totally share your sentiments. Although Larry Johnson of NoQuarter has a post supporting both Panetta and Blair, I tend to think that lack of experience makes one even more reliant upon the lifers and even more subject to pressure from who put you there (Obama). I am not hopeful that Panetta will speak truth to power and tell Obama when he is goofing things up, even though I like Panetta. I just feel that experience should always trump especially when it comes to something as imp as our frickin national security!!!!!!!!

This is totally unrelated. But, PUMA blogs are being assaulted, again, by Wonkette and other so-called liberal blogs in the election of the 2008 Web Blog Awards. The Wonktards have admitted to cheating after they were being beaten by PUMA blogstars! Seems they abhor democracy even when it comes to something as mundane as a best blog contest. They are livid that liberal blogs some of them which formed because they were kicking out people's comments that were criticizing Obama, or after posters who were also critical of Obama during the primaries had their names stolen and hijacked by writing racist and other vile things in their names (I was one such person who had their name stolen, which led me to the moniker I have now, and led me to seek liberal blogs that shared my sentiments about Obama).
So, let's help out our PUMA friends...
*Uppity Woman -- Best New Blog
*The Confluence -- Best Liberal Blog
*NoQuarter -- Best Political Coverage
*Savage Politics -- Best Up & Coming Blog

Sugar, aren't you being a little hard about wanting experience in the demanding jobs of government. Our president, for the next four years, seems to be lacking some experience himself. But, I've heard that government training is excellent once you get the job. (she said light heartedly)

chay,
the ironic thing for anyone who works in government is -- you get no training, you are totally on your own flubbing along begging other people to help you and searching for info to get the training you desperately need on systems you don't even know how to use. Lifers get pissed because they have to train the newbies who were never trained in the first place and get no additional compensation for it, with the increased reliance upon the internet, every govt employee is forced to work extra time, do extra research to find out basic govt polices that actually used to be distributed in paper format but now YOU are responsible for finding and downloading said policies, and if you don't you are accountable for the mishaps, and consequently subject to even more paperwork. This also puts govt employees at a productive low because you are constantly waiting for things to load on the gd computer. Can you imagine the CIA who has been notorious for not using computers/internet being responsible for finding out their own bloody policies on sharenet in the name of enforcing workplace efficiency? Not to mention the increased propensity for internet hackers? The Pentagon has enough trouble keeping the internet hackers at bay, and now they are demanding that the CIA be forced to use the very technology they can't even protect.

I sincerely hope that no one took my comment seriously. It is my belief that we are not really in tune to reality if we think everyone can be interchangeable. Experience counts for a lot. I agree with the above assessment. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

Panetta fits into the group. No experience? obama..no experience. Age..Joe Biden...old. What a ride we are in for.

hey hey there are computer design engineers in my family older than Panetta. that generation invented the stuff the punks only USE.
perhaps BO is afraid of a coup & feels he can trust an outsider. as director of US Office of Mgmt & Budget Panetta made big cuts to the CIA. that worked out real well for the terrorists.
Fembots, Larry's view is interesting but I agree w/you it's not a good time for experimentation.
it's the FBI with the old equipment. from my own experience contracting, Gov employees get more training than those in private biz. they always complain. in corporate world you train on your own time & usually on your own dime unless it's CBT.
